June 6, 2024

And then it was June!

We are now into the final weeks of classes before the school year comes to an end. We encourage students to finish the year strong and ensure all assignments and assessments are completed to the best of their ability before we break for summer holidays.

This is a special time of year for our grads. We look forward to their Grad Dinner and Dance and Red Carpet Walk coming up tomorrow (Friday, June 7th), the Dry Grad Party on Friday, June 21st, and of course the Valedictory Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, June 26th.

Here’s a few reminders about the events on Friday, June 7th:

Grad Walk, Friday, June 7th at 4:15pm: at SDSS Track

  • Students meet in the East Gym at 4:00 pm to organize for a group photo and the start of the walk.
  • The Grad Walk begins at 4:15 pm. The walk will proceed through the theatre before heading outside to the ramp located at the northwest corner of the track. Parents and guests will be able to view the Grad Walk in the theatre or outside on the track or from the bleachers. It is advisable for parents and guests to arrive early to secure prime viewing space.
  • In the event of rain, an alternate route is planned through the school.

Scholarship and Awards Evening – Thursday, June 13th

Scholarship recipients and their guests have been invited to attend a special Scholarship Event on Thursday, June 13th at 6:00 pm in the theatre. Invitations have been sent via email this week. A small reception at the conclusion of the event will allow students and families to visit with scholarship donors and presenters.

School Awards recipients and their guests have been invited to attend the Awards portion of the evening, also on Thursday, June 13th. The Awards event will begin at 7:30 pm in the theatre. We will also have a reception and an opportunity for photographs with the awards at the conclusion of the event.

Congratulations to all our scholarship and award recipients! Please RSVP by Monday, June 10th.

Summer Solstice Dry Grad Party

Our Volunteer Dry Grad Parent Committee has been working very hard to provide a fun, inclusive, and safe celebration for this year’s grads. Tickets have been sold and grads are looking forward to a special night. Grads and parents should watch their emails for details. Congratulations to all the grads of 2024!

The Dry Grad committee is looking for some Grade 11 parents to volunteer the night of the party and ensure our grads have a fun evening. This is a wonderful way to see the event that the Grade 12 parents have planned since October! Please check the link to see which volunteer opportunity interests you. Dry Grad is at the Aria Banquet Hall in Surrey.

Thanks for all your support,

Joanna Wilson, Jana Yackel, and Rebecca Lee (co chairs)

The Spring Athletics Season is coming to an end with the Provincial Track & Field Championships in Nanaimo as the final event of the BC School Sports Season. Over the past couple of weeks, Sun Devil student athletes have competed in zone playoffs and provincial championships in rugby, soccer, and Ultimate. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments and achievements of our student athletes and teams at our Athletic Awards Banquet on Wednesday June 12th, at 3:00 pm in the Cafeteria. Student-athlete attendees are asked to RSVP to confirm their attendance. https://forms.gle/ve4Qbbc2HS152vvE6

We are planning to distribute yearbooks on Friday, June 21st in Block A classes. Library books (due June 15th) and textbooks must be returned and outstanding school fees should be paid before yearbooks are received. Please check your student’s account on Parent Connect well in advance of the last week of classes and contact Mrs. Jerome in the office if you need assistance.
