Business 9/10 (Entrepreneurship & Marketing)
Business 9/10 introduces students to the foundations of entrepreneurship and marketing through hands-on, real-world learning experiences. Students explore how businesses identify consumer needs, develop products and services, build brands, set prices, and promote their ideas using both traditional and digital marketing strategies.
Through collaborative projects, case studies, and experiential activities, students learn key concepts such as the marketing mix (4 Ps), basic financial literacy and accounting, market research, business planning, and ethical decision-making. Students apply their learning by designing, marketing, and presenting business ideas, developing problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. This course provides a strong foundation for senior Business Education courses and helps students build practical skills relevant to future education, careers, and everyday life.
Computer Studies 9/10 (Info. Tech)
Computers can be an essential part of our work and play. Students will learn about computer hardware, coding (Scratch, HTML/CSS, other languages), networking, touch typing, cybersecurity, AI, design (Canva), image manipulation (photoshop/GIMP), video editing, audio editing, and work on individual projects to further explore these and other computer related topics. The goal is to learn more ways to use computers for work, play, and creativity.
Accounting 11
This introductory course aims to teach students personal finance and basic bookkeeping skills for a small business. The final assessment is a real-world bookkeeping simulation that requires complete understanding of the accounting cycle. Students come away from this course with an introduction to the language of business, and a skill to add to their resume. Students will gain practical experience building spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. Projects such as the Stock Market simulation game and Accounting Monopoly are always student pleasers. Attention is focused on real world situations and applying it to class discussions and assignments.
Financial Accounting 12
Accounting is the foundation of the business world. Therefore, learning it now in a low-pressure environment is easy and beneficial, especially for those interested in pursuing a business degree/diploma at post-secondary. This intermediate course builds off the skills learned in Accounting 11, and focuses on completing the accounting cycle, financial analysis including ratios and cash flow statements, as well as differentiating service businesses from merchandising businesses. Emphasis is placed on post-secondary material including case studies, and exercises from midterms and finals ultimately preparing the students for what lies ahead.
Economic Theory 12
Economic Theory 12 is a course designed to prepare you for any first-year university or college Economics course and will touch on theories and principles at that level. If you plan to study business at post-secondary this course will make your life easier in first year. It will focus on the basic concepts of scarcity, supply and demand, production costs as well as the theories of prominent economists such as Adam Smith, and John Maynard Keynes to name a few. This content is usually academic in nature, but the global pandemic of 2020 has made it the ultimate in experiential learning. Economic Theory 12 is a Social Studies Credit and an academic course accepted by most universities.
